Os fantasmas e o Rei: Esporte Espetacular conta as histórias do Maracanã

Primeiro episódio de série sobre os 70 anos do estádio mostra imagens raras de sua construção, e personagens falam sobre conquistas da Seleção após trauma da Copa de 50

O episódio mais conhecido dos dias iniciais do Maracanã é, com certeza, a final da Copa do Mundo de 1950. A inesperada derrota do Brasil por 2 a 1 para o Uruguai foi o primeiro grande trauma do estádio inaugurado naquele mesmo ano. Mas as histórias sobrenaturais vêm de bem antes.

A começar pelo fato de o Maracanã ter sido erguido em tempo recorde e de ter sido inaugurado em 16 de junho de 1950 ainda inacabado – as obras foram finalizadas apenas em 1965. Mas houve outros episódios surreais antes de o estádio ser aberto ao público:

– Há histórias de que fantasmas apareciam no Maracanã na época da construção. Jornais diziam que alguns operários ficavam assustados – conta o historiador Luiz Antonio Simas, que em breve lançará um livro sobre o estádio.

Mas o fantasma da Copa de 50 permaneceu por muito tempo, e, de certa forma, foi responsável pelo surgimento de craques que anos depois dariam muitas alegrias a públicos que algumas vezes chegaram a quase 200 mil pessoas em grandes jogos.

– Meu pai falava muito sobre a Copa de 50, e então eu tinha curiosidade de conhecer o Maracanã. Não era nem curiosidade de jogar lá. Era de conhecer mesmo, por causa do mito de 50 – lembrou Pelé.

Foi no Maracanã que o Rei fez sua estreia e despedida da Seleção, onde marcou seu milésimo gol e onde conquistou dois títulos mundiais pelo Santos. Mas as conquistas da Seleção no estádio chegaram por meio de outras gerações. No mesmo 16 de julho da derrota na final da Copa, contra o mesmo Uruguai, no mesmo Maracanã, só que em 1989, o Brasil levantou a Copa América.

– Era o momento de a gente apagar tudo aquilo. Foi uma motivação a mais para todos nós – destacou Bebeto, que formou com Romário uma das maiores duplas de ataque da história da seleção brasileira.
