Projeto de lei PROÍBE ensino privado de aumentar as mensalidades em 2021
O senador Rogerio Carvalho (PT-SE) apresentou ao Senado um projeto (PL 4.623/2020) que proíbe o reajuste no valor das mensalidades de escolas particulares, tanto nos níveis fundamental e médio, quanto no superior, durante o ano de 2021, em relação aos preços praticados em 2020.
Se alguma dessas instituições descumprir a norma, de acordo com a proposta, ficará sujeita às multas definidas no Código de Defesa do Consumidor (CDC — Lei 8.078, de 1990)

A pandemia de covid-19 causou a suspensão de atividades de instituições escolares por todo o país. No período, afirma Rogério, milhões de famílias tiveram suas rendas diminuídas.
Por outro lado, diz o senador, a suspensão das aulas presenciais fez com que escolas, faculdades e universidades privadas economizassem recursos com diversos itens, como água, energia, alimentação e manutenção

Além disso, a possibilidade de suspensão dos contratos de trabalho, com pagamento do seguro-desemprego aos funcionários pelo governo, desonerou as folhas de pagamento das escolas e instituições de ensino superior

Ainda não há relator designado para o projeto. Por se tratar de matéria relacionada à pandemia de covid-19, pode, de acordo com decisão dos líderes e do presidente do Senado, Davi Alcolumbre, ser deliberada diretamente pelo Plenário
